't skew the facts to fit your warped perceptions. I knew a woman who raised them her entire 87 years of life and was attacked and subsequently died from her attacks. The attack happened WHILE SHE WAS ASLEEP. The problem are not the dogs but the people who own them. Most dogs general are untrained and not socialized properly. People keep them chained to a post their entire lives and wonder why they attack. lab was viciously attacked by a pit bull that was off leash. The 4 year old pitt was a rescue that the owner only had for 5 months There are that are shelters that have been abused, and they are adopted by people without enough knowledge. One moment the dogs were saying hello, and the next second it had its teeth into dog and was shaking. you cannot say that they do not turn and attack. This one did. I have always defended pit bulls as anyone who has seen a pit bull puppy cannot possibly imagine that they would one day be capable of much violence. And here I am with dog severely injured. How often do you hear about the Labrador retriever that killed a baby? It is irresponsible to ignore the breed. of you who defend the breed are taking idealistic approach which I understand. But the reality is there are dumped shelters with bad owners. of you who are defending pits are lucky enough never to have seen attack and it is something that happens on tv or something you heard about. It is gruesome, fast and traumatic. Because of this irresponsible owner, not only is dog injured, the life of the 2 pit bulls are also jeopardy. Some of you who have loving pit bulls raised them properly, and socialized well. But the kinds of people who are attracted to the breed are not necessarily loving. Those are the people who leave a trail of blood. It breaks heart that this pit bull be put down. JL, You just helped make argument, thank you. You're right how times do you hear of a lab killing a baby? The answer would be hardly ever, the media is about 10 times more likely to report anything a pitbull does wrong, than report the wrongs of other breeds. They also like to attribute wrongs done by any dog that even looks like their could be any pitbull it, to the pitbull breed. I suggest you visit the non-biased American Temperament Testing Society website. They have the percentages of 121 breeds who were tested numerical order on there. American Staffordshire Terriers and American Pitbull both are the mid 80's range as far a testing percentage. That places them among the top ten breeds tested as far as temperament goes. It's also considerably higher than the over all average of 77%, which is the average of the 121 breeds combines. Any dog can snap and kill if they are not socialized and properly attended to. No one knows how that dog is treated when no one is around. These attacks would not happen if the owner is responsible and respects the breed. You have to take precautions if you know the dog and its potential. If you pay attention to your dog and its daily behavior
